Symmetrical cable's electrical characteristics: asymmetry
In the previous article, we reviewed the basic parameters NEXT and FEXT. The Attenuation to Crosstalk Ratio (ACR) is used when evaluating structured cabling. This parameter is equivalent to the signal/noise parameter concerning the transient effects at the near end of the NEXT, i.e., it serves as an estimate at the receiver input for the undergone line attenuation of the signal and for noise from the transient effects at the near end. Quantitatively, ACR is expressed as a logarithmic measure of the difference between NEXT and cable attenuation. If, for example, the ACR value is 10 dB, this means that the NEXT power of the interference at the receiver input will be 10 times less than the power of the useful signal, i.e., the signal-to-noise ratio will be 10.
Suppose the communication system operates in single-cable mode, and the signal levels at the outputs of the transmitters at points A and B are the same and equal to 0 dB. If the line attenuation at frequency F denotes by Ak, then at transient attenuation NEXT at the same frequency signal levels, Pc and transient noise Pp at the input of receiver A will be Ak and NEXT.
Then ACR = Pc - Pp = NEXT - Ak.
The practical meaning of the ACR parameter becomes more precise if the frequency characteristics of the attenuation of a symmetrical pair (A), transient interference (NEXT), and the parameter (ACR) are presented on the same graph. The frequency at which the values of attenuation and NEXT are the same (in this case, it is 100 MHz) determines the upper limit of the operating frequency range. At frequencies above the boundary value, the power of the interference NEXT exceeds the signal strength.
Another cable system indicator, the Equal Level Far End Crosstalk (ELFEXT), has the same physical meaning as ACR. The only difference is that ACR is associated with NEXT, while ELFEXT is associated with FEXT. The ELFEXT parameter becomes critical when several transmitters of the same system are transmitting in the same direction on pairs located in the same cable.
In this case, ELFEXT = FEXT - Ak.
In addition to the ACR and FEXT parameters, two additional parameters are used - PS-ACR (Power Sum ACR) and PS-ELFEXT (Power Sum ELFEXT), which consider the real influence on this pair of all other cable pairs.
ASYMMETRY (IMBALANCE) LINE
Asymmetry is a transmission parameter, as it is determined by the pair parameters and affects its bandwidth, and an influencing parameter, as it affects the transitions between other pairs.
Each symmetrical line must be balanced concerning the ground in a certain way. Two types of asymmetry are distinguished depending on the current, DC, or AC.
DC asymmetry is estimated by the relative value of the difference of resistance of the cores of a symmetrical line and should not exceed 1%. The presence of the resistive unbalance of the line, equal to the difference of its core resistances measured at AC current, can be interpreted as the inclusion of an additional low-pass filter with the resistance of the longitudinal arm dR. In addition to the resistive component, the longitudinal unbalance of the line in the general case contains a capacitive component; it can arise, for example, due to accidental crossing of the cores of different pairs in the connection points of cables. This component can be interpreted as the transverse capacitance of the additional low-pass filter mentioned above.
The AC Longitudinal asymmetry can be caused by loose contact at cable core joints (twist or splice points, switch cabinets, etc.). The longitudinal unbalance problem cannot be solved, even if the longitudinal asymmetry of the pair in question is reduced to normal. This fact is a necessary but insufficient condition for solving the problem of longitudinal asymmetry in a particular cable. The state of sufficiency requires that all pairs of the bundle or the loop must be checked for compliance with the asymmetry norms. The fact is that any unbalance of even a non-working pair is a source of interference to all working pairs, the consequence of which is a decrease in their carrying capacity.

So, how does the domain authority process work? In essence, the DA PA checker tool uses machine learning models to compare domains' link data with real-world SERPs in order to determine the ranking. Even though DA makes use of a fairly holistic approach, it emphasizes links in particular.
Do you know what a good domain authority is?
Due to the fact that DA is a relative ranking, there is no such thing as a good or bad rating. In simple terms, a "good" DA is one that is higher than your competitors, whereas a "bad" DA is one that is lower than your competitors.

In the same way as DA, PA scores range from 0 to 100, with high scores corresponding to a higher likelihood of ranking high in the SERPs.
Page Authority: How Does It Work?
The Page Authority score is based on a logarithmic scale, which means that improving your score from 80 to 90 is harder than improving it from 1 to 10. In the beginning, every page has a PA of 1.
PA is technically comparable to DA in terms of how it functions. However, it does not take into consideration on-page SEO elements, such as keyword usage. Rather, it relies heavily on backlinks.
Domain Authority vs. Page Authority

Power: Mitigating Self-Selection and Abuses
I think one of the fundamental societal reasons why we see such significant examples of occasional shitty and callous behavior amongst police, border enforcement agents, etc, is that we let people self-select into those roles.
You know where a vaguely racist bigot with a sense of needing to enforce “justice” who thinks illegal immigrants are a real moral problem just might be more inclined to go as a career path? A border patrol/enforcement job with ICE, I’d wager.
About five or six years ago, I started tentatively thinking that any societal police-like roles, when they are deemed necessary, ought to be a mix of random selection and careful fitness assessment, where “fitness” means not just physical, but multiple mental traits relevant to being able to use your position of power responsibly.
Right out the gate, we go from “biased in favor of people who crave power over others (most of whom, I think, are not the kind of people who ought to have it)” to only letting those few slip through the mental fitness evaluations.
Should people be able to opt out?
My current answer is “yes, unless the system runs dry of good candidates, and only after they’ve already been selected and passed the fitness assessments”.
People who really don’t want to be doing it are just going to be really bad at it in other ways, and I’m not really comfortable with forcing people into taking on life-risking altruistic duties.
I don’t want to allow too much selective pressure that once again biases the pool of candidates too much in favor of people who want power for its own sake, but I think the pools of people who actively want to be cops/similar and who actively don’t want to be cops/similar are both relatively small pools, with a good chunk of humanity being willing to take on those roles if given them. Either way I think it’s self-evidently right to let people have the choice to not do a thing until there’s a real need for them to do the thing.
Why allow opt-out only after you’ve already been deemed fit and handed the offer? Because it seems most optimal given what I know of how human minds work. I think the right kind of people are more likely to take the offer if it’s already on the table, and more likely to opt out prematurely if given the option before then.

Also there should be term-limits by default.
I do think that people who prove themselves to have an exceptionally good track record in such fields might be valuable enough to keep those positions of power longer, but I think it needs to be an explicit “society actively vouches for you” thing, so I’m thinking after the initial term (2-3 years?), but if you want to stay in, you have to basically petition the people for each new term.
People from the community you’ve served, including from the people you’ve actually arrested or otherwise enforced the law against, have to sign off on a statement like “I trust this person to do the right thing if they are called into a situation and told that I’m doing something wrong”, or something to that effect. I’d prefer a more in-depth interview, because if they don’t know you they shouldn’t be able to vouch for you.
And the burden of proof goes up each term. So maybe if you want to be a cop for years 3-4 or 4-6 or whatever, that’s easy, get ten/twenty people to sign off that you’re a good enough person to continue. Third term? Double that. Fourth term? Double again. Or something like that. Maybe a logarithmic function that plateaus after a while.
Adjusted for the number of people that you have within your jurisdiction or something, which will nicely tackle another problem: The cops have to know you personally. If they want to be able to stay in the field, the only way they can stay is by knowing enough of the people within their community, and they eventually become numerically bound because you can only get so many people to really know and trust you at once. Boom, no more police departments covering huge populated areas where every civilian becomes a lightly-dehumanized stereotype.
There’s more we can do, like I think we can do something useful with a system for reviewing cops the way we review Uber drivers or restaurants, but I think the exact discussion of possible ethically optimal ways to implement that are best left for another post.

If you prefer to display a comma separator, choose View > Show Thousands Separators to display the comma in larger numbers.
